The four clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) of Ashford; Canterbury & Coastal, South Kent Coast, and Thanet are working together with their partners to transform the local NHS and provide better care for all our patients in in east Kent. East Kent as an NHS area covers a combined population of around 700,000 people.
The NHS in east Kent published a Case for Change in 2016 and has been working hard since then to bring improvements to local services. You can read about some of the improvements already happening in Better health and care for east Kent: You said we did (Oct 2018).
Engaging with patients, the public and other stakeholders has been an integral part of developing our plans from the original case for change through to our current proposals. Summary of engagement work since 2015.

In February 2019 the joint east Kent joint committee of NHS clinical commissioning groups who are leading on the possible changes to hospital services in east Kent, heard how views from nearly 2,000 people through public meetings, small discussion groups, street surveys and online questionnaires between October 2018 and January 2019.
More than 1,100 people discussed the plans face-to-face with NHS leaders and independent researchers, and over 750 people responded to a questionnaire.

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to helping us develop our proposals into firm options for the future. Most recently the clinicians, patients and the public who helped us prepare for the final evaluation of the options by reviewing the evidence and criteria in July of 2019. The independent report of this session together with all the evidence gathered has now been fully evaluate, and we can confirm that we are in the final preparations for both options to be assured by the South East Clinical Senate and NHS England.
