Patient Participation Groups (PPGs)

What is a PPG?

PPGs are a route for patients to advise and inform the GP practice they are registered with, what matters most to patients and help identify solutions to problems. They are a group of practice users who care about the way the practice works and the service it provides.

To help in the planning, provision and delivery of local healthcare services and practice issues representing patient views.  PPGs work with GP practices in order to identify priorities for patients and contribute to proposals for any improvements in continuity of care.

A PPG group is run by patients and they work closely with the practice and members of the practice team, including General Practitioners.

Interested in joining a local PPG?

If you would like to get involved why not contact your local GP practice and ask if they have a Patient Participation Group (PPG) or you could find information on their practice website.

Health Reference Group

The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has developed a number of opportunities for patients to support the development of services and commissioning plans, which include public meetings, the Health Network and Patient Participation Groups (PPGs).

As well as these opportunities for patients and stakeholders to input into local health services, the CCG has set up our Health Reference Group (HRG). This is a permanent working group that forms an integral part of the CCG’s strategic processes.

The Health Reference Group represents the voices of Thanet patients, public and stakeholders. They work with the CCG commissioners to support them around public and patient involvement in the CCG’s commissioning intentions.
The Group will work in partnership with the voluntary sector and will exchange information, ideas and viewpoints so that the Group actively influences service development and provision.

How can I get involved?

If you would like to get involved why not contact your local GP practice and ask if they have a PPG that you could join or talk to them about becoming a representative at the Thanet CCG's (PPG) or HRG and have a voice in decision-making processes.

Alternatively, you can join the Thanet Health Network here and help us by taking part in focus groups or surveys or come and talk to us at our public meetings to make sure your voice is heard.
